PORT LOUIS, Mauritius, Capital Markets in Africa — Equity trading on the floor of the Stock Exchange of Mauritius ended in negative zone. The equity market capitalization closed at MUR 214.828 after losing MUR 498 million (US$14 million) relative to previous market capitalization of MUR 215.326 billion.
The Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) sagged by 0.23 percent or 4.67 points to close at 1,929.11 points and SEM10 index closed at 367.30 points after losing 0.28 percent or 1.04 points.
From the market activity viewpoint, the overall total volume trade ended at 2,938,337 (a decrease relative to volume of 21,291,586 recorded on previous trading session) and the total valued traded was recorded at MUR 30.602 million (a fall relative to MUR 64.429 million recorded at previous trading session).
The most active traded securities by volume were SMB Holdings recorded 1,120,000 (about 38 percent of total volume) at MUR 954,030 and CIM Financial Services registered 725,646 traded stocks amounted to MUR 6.069 million. New Mauritius Hotels had 650,650 at MUR 12.037 million and CIEL Limited recorded a total volume of 168,000 shares at MUR 1.142 million. Terra Limited also recorded 71,200 shares at MUR 2.084 million.
From the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, out of 26 traded securities there were 4 price gainers and 9 price losers, hence the market sentiment ends negative. Caudan Limited added 3.97 percent to end at MUR 1.31 and National Investment Trust ended at MUR 42.95 after surging by 1.06 percent. After adding 0.53 percent, Promotion & Development ended at MUR 95.00 and POLICY soared by 0.30 percent to close at MUR 6.66.
On the losers’ chart, ENL Land Limited ended at MUR 48.00 after sagging by 3.03 percent, Union Basalt Products fell by 2.50 percent to settle at MUR 78.00 and Lottotech Limited declined by 2.50 percent to close at MUR 3.90. Fincorp Investment Limited plummeted by 1.29 percent to trade at MUR 19.20 and Terra Limited plunged by 0.85 percent to end at MUR 29.75.
The DEMEX index ended at 204.66 points after adding 0.36 points or 0.18 percent. The market capitalization added MUR 85 million to close at MUR 48.639 billion (relative to MUR 48.554 billion recorded previous trading session). The total value traded was MUR 2.718 million exchanged in 61,779 traded securities. Swan Life Limited accelerated by 4.00 percent to close at MUR 1,040.00. However, Constance La Gaiete Company Limited (-0.42 close at MUR 119.50) and Constance Hotels Services Limited (-0.41 end at MUR 36.65).
